Credits and Acknowledgments

During three years, Jaydie Putterman and Rosalynde Lesur crisscrossed the whole of Europe, in order to meet and photograph 111 representatives of what they like to name "the new European humanism".

According to the creators, it's about an exclusive and unique assembling of scientists, artists, heads of state and founders of idealistic movements, who are engaged in the most ambitious of adventures for the 20th century: permit Europeans to live and work in peace and serenity.

It goes without saying that this project is not exhaustive. 111, is not many. it's almost nothing. Heroes are often anonymous, working hard in the shadows of life, without other recognition then belated relief of those who they've helped. This internet website is dedication to them, and to all those, who, one day, gave something that he could have kept for himself to someone who he did'nt know.
Wishing, Internet Visitor, that, sooner or later, you can recognize yourself in this definition. Save your talent. Enlarge your conscience. Cultivate your garden, Europe.

The original project would not have been realized without the patronage and the support from corporations, associations, men and women, all of special quality. For this they must all be thanked here. This page, has as a goal, to recall their contribution to the European culture.

Sponsorship and Patronage of the initial Project

"Talents and Consciences of Europe" thanks all those who have so willingly given a little - or a lot - of their time, their talents, their consciences to the planning and carrying-out of this project. "Talents and Consciences of Europe" is a concatenation of determinate endeavors by people from all walks of life, each individual was essential, each link in the chain of prime importance. It would be quite impossible to name them all: there are so many of them. They know who they are and that we are thinking of them. But there are some to whom we owe very special thanks:

The initial project  "Talents and Consciences of Europe", which was the production of editions of traveling photographic exhibitions and the publishing of books and catalogues in 5 languages, received:

The "Parrainage" of:
Jacques Chirac, Jacques Delors, Michel Charasse, Roland Dumas, Alain Juppé.

Jacques Delors has also written the preface of the project for Jaydie Putterman. The following is its reproduction: "If the European venture had to rely solely on politicians and civil servants, its future would be very uncertain indeed. But Europe's true richness lies in its many different faces and its vast range of talents.
The lesson brought home through the images of Jaydie Putterman in this book is to remind us of the evident fact that Europe is both one and many: a vigorous mix of scientists, artists, thinkers, activists and politicians, of generosity and brilliance; but also a unique testbed of plural democraty, united by a shared model of society founded on common values - a shared conception of economic and social relations - and rooted in a philosophy of balance between man and society.
These portraits, serious and lively, also make us aware of the contribution made to our privileged Western world by those - exemplified here by men such as Vaclav Havel, Jiri Dienstbier or Alexander Dubcek - who assert the right not simply to our material prosperity but above all else to their historical and spiritual place in Europe; proof that, though there may be no such thing as a European nation, there are in Europe nations in search of a common destiny.
