| Many men dream of becoming one of the best lawyers in their country. José de Azeredo Perdigao had such a dream and it came true. But it seems he thought there was more to life than that. One day, Calouste Gulbenkian contacted him. Gulbenkian, a businessman who fled to Portugal during the war, wanted to set up a Foundation of Contemporary Art. And he picked him to head it. Thus is was that de Azeredo Perdigo gave up his brilliant law career to devote himself to artists. Encouraging them, exhibiting them, supporting them. He put his legal knowledge at the service of artistic creation, and he defends it, body and soul. Never have beauty, taste and wonder been better defended. |
