Does the life of a man of the Church consist solely of meditating, praying and studying the scriptures? Not necessarily. Antonio Ciliberti, the Bishop of Locri, in Calabria, for example, has taken on the Mafia. "Either we all fight together against evil, or we all fall together", says the bishop, who is himself a fighter. "Mafiosi, you don't frighten me", he once declared. Not the usual kind of sermon, admittedly, but one which preaches courage as the companion of prayer.
