| History is made of great events: forgotten are the lovers' kisses, children's noisy footsteps in the street, old people silent on a bench enjoying a last spring. Forgotten are the balls, happy wedding days. None of the essential matter of our lives is remembered: the modest - perfect - poetry of each day, the obvious - idyllic - beauty of simple joys, the strong - authentic - emotions concealed in little things. These are recorded by Robert Doisneau. His photographs have the elegance and fragrance of cut flowers offered to a loved one. A specialist of the image, he is a specialist of life.
