
| Unarmed, at the risk of his life, General Manuel Gutiérrez Mellado stood against the small group who attempted a coup in Spain in 1981, storming the Parliament building. They hoped to restore past power, less than glorious. To prevent a failing memory from returning to destroy at a stroke the fragile hopes of the present is one of the most useful acts an individual can perform. |
