The Geneva Conventions. Three words of enormous significance, topical whenever war is waged. To protect the innocent deprived of everything, caught between two hates, two nightmares, two sources of death - to defuse destructive hysteria, Jean Pictet was responsible for the preparatory work which led, in 1949, to the conclusion of the four Geneva Conventions. He contributed more than one brick to the building of this barricade, this haven. For a long time one of the leading members of the International Committee of the Red Cross, this man of patience and sang-froid is at war with the very idea of war.
