Society puts everyone through the mincer. Children. The insane. Delinquents. The innocent and the guilty. The disabled. People who are ill-advised enough not to be invulnerable, to be born in precisely the wrong place, to have a body or a mind that people laugh at stupidly or are spitefully afraid of. To save such people shipwrecked on the sea of life there are women like Hanne Reintoft, a woman who has plunged into the social fray, helping wherever she can, in hospitals and in prisons. Her talk is of adolescents, ethics, culture, dialogue. And she won a seat in her country's Parliament. So that those between the upper and nether millstones might have someone to speak for them.
