Beauty is not always innocent. To perfect a cosmetic product, frightful experiments have sometimes to be carried out on animals. Live monkeys have their brains removed to make a cheek more rosy or to emphasize the blue of an eye. Anita Roddick founded The Body Shop, which makes cosmetics that never involve harming any living creature and also uses recycled wrapping paper to promote humanitarian and ecological associations. Make-up, perfume, the glorification of femininity and seductiveness have - thanks to her - become the new spokesmen of the most honourable of campaigns: giving pleasure and taking a stand can be two sides of the same coin. This woman has dispersed an old shadow and replaced it with a new ray of light.
