Monuments of the dead are seldom alive. Sue Ryder set up her Foundation in memory of the million of victims of the two world wars. In Africa, in India, in Eastern and Western Europe the Sue Ryder Homes take in the homeless, the uncared-for and the no-hopers made plentiful by the evils of our times, whose voice grows louder as their numbers increase. The Homes hear that voice and respond to it. This is a monument to the dead which is neither marble nor stone, but flesh and blood, charity and comfort.
