| To be the hope of others is to take part in a drama, a very moving one. Léon Schwartzenberg knows this. His days are taken up with men and women who are afraid, with men and women who are suffering, with others who are dying. He spends his time restoring the link between cancer sufferers with troubled eyes like those of hostages and that fleeting miracle which is life itself. Being a cancer specialist is not a profession. It is a long and arduous journey; and the more famous and sought-after you are, the lonelier it becomes. His face is lined and creviced by all he has seen. It is a mirror reflecting involuntarily the fear and the pain of all those who come to him. |
