| His linguist father fought to get scientists to explain their theories in language as clear and simple as possible. Now a researcher himself, Jan Tinbergen has devoted his life to looking for economic equations which would make it possible to raise the living standards of the world's disadvantaged regions and achieve a logical balance between rich and poor countries. He has tried to track down those mysterious cycles which produce abundance in one place and famine in another. What he is looking for is that elusive alchemy, that potential harmony, that formula which would enable the world to live at peace and without need. He has gone further than his father: instead of making scientific thought accessible to the greatest possible number, he has tried to make prosperity accessible to all. |
