Some people suffer because, for them, there is no God, but others suffer because there are too many; so many they pose a threat to their most sacred and fundamental beliefs. Religious conflict wounds and misleads, sets people against each other. The innocent get hurt. Elio Toaff is Chief Rabbi in Rome. He is striving to promote understanding between all religions, to create a world where no one is labelled an 'infidel', where the churches, synagogues and mosques (which, after all, share a common scripture and a common God) work together to ensure that no one dies for his faith. They alone have the power. Elio Toaff has the will.
