| Every year, on the eve of the official award of the Nobel Prize, another prize is awarded: the Right Livelihood Award. Since not all the deserving can be rewarded, since some battles might be a little uncomfortable for the Nobel Foundation, another distinction, equally honourable, equally respectable, not quite so traditional was needed. The Right Livelihood Award is the creation of Jakob von Uexküll. For him whatever is different is important, alive, crucial. It has to be understood that Europe will be a Europe of contrasts or it will be nothing at all. |
