For her, it all began at Auschwitz. Total humiliation; death on the assembly line. From such suffering springs the desire to make dignity and vigilance prevail. And this is what Simone Veil does, a woman among men, a conscience among ambitions. She stands firm for the right of women to choose their own destiny, for the role of morality in politics, for the building of Europe. Simone Veil is her own monument.
